How to Make Hummus with a KitchenAid or Hand Mixer
Delicious, creamy, and totally customizable hummus recipes—made easy with a KitchenAid or hand mixer!
Welcome to the World of Homemade Hummus!
If you’ve ever craved a creamy, flavorful hummus and thought, “There’s no way I can make this at home,” I’m here to prove you wrong! Making hummus from scratch is incredibly simple—and the best part? You can do it with just a KitchenAid stand mixer or even a hand mixer. Whether you’re a hummus enthusiast or a first-time maker, you’ll find that blending up your own batch is just as fun as it is rewarding.
So, grab your ingredients, fire up your mixer, and let’s dive into the world of delicious, homemade hummus. Here are a few of my favorite go-to recipes to get you started. Enjoy!
Classic Hummus Recipe
Ingredients:
1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
1/4 cup tahini (the creamy base of your hummus)
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice (about 1 lemon)
1-2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons olive oil (for richness)
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin (for that warm, earthy flavor)
Salt, to taste (because it’s all about the seasoning!)
Water (to adjust texture)
Instructions:
Start by adding your chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, garlic, cumin, and olive oil into the bowl of your KitchenAid or hand mixer.
Mix everything on medium speed for about 1-2 minutes. Be sure to pause and scrape down the sides to get all that good stuff incorporated.
Slowly add water, one tablespoon at a time, until the hummus reaches that perfect smooth and creamy consistency.
Taste it! You might want to add a pinch more salt or a little extra lemon juice—make it your own.
Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle some paprika on top (for that extra flair), and serve it up with your favorite veggies, pita, or crackers.
Roasted Red Pepper Hummus
Ingredients:
1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
1/4 cup tahini
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/2 cup roasted red peppers (store-bought or homemade—whichever you prefer!)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (adds that irresistible smoky kick)
Salt, to taste
Water (for creaminess)
Instructions:
Toss your chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, roasted red peppers, olive oil, and smoked paprika into the mixer.
Blend it all together until smooth and creamy—don’t forget to scrape the bowl halfway through.
Add a little water if it’s too thick for your liking. Season with salt to taste.
Garnish with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of paprika to finish. This one’s a crowd-pleaser!
Spicy Sriracha Hummus
Ingredients:
1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
1/4 cup tahini
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 tablespoon sriracha (feel free to add more if you like it extra spicy!)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt, to taste
Water (to achieve your desired texture)
Instructions:
Add chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, sriracha, olive oil, and garlic powder to your mixing bowl.
Mix it all up until it’s silky smooth. Adjust the consistency with a little water, depending on how thick or creamy you like it.
Taste and add more sriracha if you're feeling bold. Salt to taste.
Serve with a little extra drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of chili flakes for that perfect spicy finish.
Tips for Perfect Hummus Every Time
Peel the Chickpeas (Optional, but worth it!): For the silkiest, creamiest hummus, you can peel your chickpeas before blending. It takes a bit longer, but it makes a noticeable difference in texture.
Experiment with Flavors: Once you’ve mastered the basics, feel free to get creative! Try adding roasted garlic, fresh herbs like cilantro or parsley, or even a handful of spinach for a vibrant green hummus.
Chill Out: Let your hummus chill for at least 30 minutes before serving. This allows all those flavors to really come together.
Use High-Quality Olive Oil: Don’t skimp on the olive oil—this is what gives your hummus that velvety finish!
Enjoy Your Homemade Hummus!
Whether you're serving it up for a party, snacking solo, or bringing it to a potluck, homemade hummus is always a hit. It’s so easy to make and customize with different flavors to suit your mood or dietary preferences. I hope these recipes inspire you to get creative in the kitchen, and remember—there’s no wrong way to make hummus. Have fun, and enjoy every bite!
